Children and Poor Student Development Organization is a nongovernmental organization in Cambodia target to help the underprivileged children and disadvantage students in Phnom Penh.CPDO strives to help students from the province to receive funding in education to further their educational study in Phnom Penh and to rescue children who are vulnerable to have a better lives.

CPDO strives to help the poor students who are unable to have adequate education due to their lack of funds and support. We try to support all students who are willing to work hard for better education and a more knowledgeable life.

CPDO not only provide students with support in education but personal development as a valuable person in the Khmer community. If we all lend each other a hand we can help these students achieve their dreams.

Children and Poor Student Development Organization's main purpose is to help children and disadvantage students who are in Cambodia, from poor province and Phnom Penh to receive free job and educational training, as well as assistance in personal development and life skills that would benefit them in the future.We not only provide training but assist them with overall support both emotionally and economically. We teach as well as provide assistance in finding the right job for the right student.

Our goal is to ensure that even the most disadvantage student is able to have high educational studies with the help and support of CPDO.Our purpose is to make high education apart of every child’s dream, reachable.

There are many poor smart students in Cambodia who came in Phnom Penh to have a better education in order to help themselves find a good job that provides a good income. However, most of them come and rarely graduate since they lack the ability to pay. This is where CPDO come in. We help these students have scholarship and job skills so they can study worry free of money and job. We help students who are poor from 18- 24.

We also care for the children to let them receive a good education from elementary to high school. Children are the future of our country and so we have to take care of them when they young who are underprivileged in order to save them from becoming a bad citizen in the society.

CPDO is founded by Kim Sothy who have a vision to help the poor children and students in Cambodia in the year of 2008. As English language teacher, Kim Sothy see many smart students being ignored just because they have no ability to pay. The solution: she want to offer them free education and to help them find a job. Kim Sothy wishes to provides each and everyone of the children and students a better life and job skills.

CPDO AND YCSCO NETWORK ACTIVITIES

Peter from California sit next to CPDO President, Kim Sothy in the meeting. The members of CPDO welcome him warmly.

Peter and Kim Sothy are teaching children at YCSCO English class.

Both are volunteering to give kids of YCSCO some English lesson. Peter helps the kids to pronounce English perfectly while Kim Sothy interpreted in Khmer.

In the dark rooftop of YCSCO, more students are learning English in the dark cold wind. Peter distributes more school supplies to kids on the rooftop.

The members of CPDO are having a fun meeting with Peter.

Peter is teaching the students how to read world map to understand the location of each country and continents.

Kim Sothy helps Peter to distribute more school supplies and doing some translation for peter to communicate with children.

The president of CPDO have received 20 books, 20 pens, and a lamp given by YCSCO, sponsored by Peter which he donated the supplies to YCSCO.

Our first project focus on education which we provide the courses in English, Japanese, Thai, Chinese, and computer. Our biggest class is computer where we will train them to do typing, web designing and programming. These classes are offer to children and students who are poor and illiterates.

CPDO started with the demand of the students who came from far and near the Phnom Penh city asking for help with education and job training skills. Granted their wish, a director name Kim Sothy and some volunteer students all put their mind and efforts together to establish Children and Poor Student Development Organization to offer free education and job training facility.

I Kim Sothy, CPDO’s director, I would like to say a big thank you to “Your Cambodian Street Children Organization” ( YCSCO) and their director, Sorn Lorn for their over all support, guidance and help with the arrangements and funding to my NGO.

All the children and CPDO Workers greatly appreciate YCSCO contribution, and I promise to work hard to help our Cambodian children have a better chance of life and succeed in the future.

Our partnership would allow us a better coverage and ensures that we are able to help any child that is in need, and requires our assistance.

1. The Child - US$250 - your contribution will provide school uniforms and supplies, and school lunch for a year.

2. The Family - US$1,000.00 - will sponsor an entire family for one year. We will create a job for them, provide all necessary supplies, and offer support for the family (money and food) while they are getting their business going.

3. The Community - Any amount! Every little bit helps, and all other donations (unless otherwise specified) will go to building an irrigation system for the community, and for the development of the safe house.

The Traditional Khmer Apsara Dancer ...

The Traditional Khmer Apsara Dancer is at the heart of Traditional Khmer Classical Dance, the enchanting Apsara character, with graceful hand gestures and refined swaying body movements bring a special charm to the religious ambience of Khmer art and culture. The slow graceful movements that correspond to the character are vastly intricate, representing a plethora of meanings that it would take years of study to fully understand.

The Apsara dancer plays a dominant role in Cambodian Culture, both modern and traditional, as images of her can be found throughout Cambodia. Adorned with gold headdresses, silken tunics, skirts and lush jewelry the Apsara character is one of the most beautiful and identifiable characters in Cambodian Dance and History.

The sleek looking leading Apsara dancer is eloquently decorated in Customary Jewelry, a traditional White Silk Kaben with a white top. The non leading dancers are decorated in pink kabens and customary jewelry as well as the golden flower in each of the non leading dancers hand. This is truly a very crisp and clean painting by one of the talented and leading painters in Cambodia.

Displayed in several of the images below is some of quintessential postures found in the Cambodian dance.

These beautiful paintings are rich in color with a beautiful transition from light to dark (left to right) the 5 towering pillars of Angkor Wat are captured in many of the backgrounds with other figures, while the strength of many of these pieces remains the strong contrast of the golden crown, jewelry and skirt of the Apsara dancer in relation to their scenic setting. A wonderful painting displaying the lively posture and pronounced hand movements which make the Apsara dancer so attractive.
